Dear Sir,

We see a very serious problem that continues to exist in the management of Bermuda cricket.

One of the chief concerns is the lack of interest in appointing a creditable leader for our national team. As has been stated in the newspaper and elsewhere, Lionel Cann provides us with the best choice. He alone has the resume for leading Bermuda onto the field of play.

He captains St. George's Cup Match and need I mention that under his leadership he saved St. George's from what seemed like a certain defeat against Somerset, also is the captain of a successful St. David's club county team.

With his resume, any of the top business leaders in our country and elsewhere would not hesitate to appoint him as captain. But our Bermuda Cricket Board presents a different dynamic. Can we bury the hatchet on those old things and look to what's better for the country – we need a fighter and Lionel is the man.

If you need to ensure that there are no embarrassing moments in appointing him, draw up an agreement and have him sign.

Now I know this might be too late for the tour (World Cup qualifying). You may have already committed yourselves, but let it be known that we, the cricket-loving public, are following the results not only on the field of play.

But, by the way, you are managing Bermuda's national team.

A. SHAKIR, W. FOUGH
