St George's legend Thomas to be honoured
Cup Match legend Lionel Thomas will be among those to be honoured during Sunday's 5th annual Emancipation Cup Match Awards Luncheon at Bermuda Industrial Union (BIU).
The Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) selection chairman represented St.George's from 1971 to 1985 and during the 1977 classic stroked a memorable century (154) and claimed 7-61 to cap a fine all-round display in a drawn affair at Wellington Oval.
Others to be honoured for their contributions to Cup Match over the years are Somerset's Colin Blades, Shiraz Ali, Lloyd Raynor and Campbell Simons and St.George's' Vance (Super) Fox, Jeff Pitcher and Mansfield (Bo Jangles) Smith.
A special award is to be presented to long-serving cricket commentator, C.V. Jim Woolridge, who has provided commentary for nearly half a century.
Past Emancipation Cup Match Award recipients include legendary St.George's bowler Clarence Parfitt, one of only two bowlers to claim 100 or more wickets in Cup Match, Cal (Bummy) Symonds, brothers Sheridan and Lee Raynor, Dennis Wainwright and Austin (Cheesey) Hughes.
Those in attendance during Sunday's event will include Culture and Social Rehabilitation Minister Neletha Butterfield, BCB president Reggie Pearman and Somerset and St.George's presidents Richard Scott and Neil Paynter.
