Storm and Knights in fight for top spot
Storm striker Angelo Simmons insists his side won't be out for revenge when they take on Knights this week with the winners claiming top spot in the Island Soccer League (ISL) Blue Division.
Knights defeated the defending champions 7-4 in the first meeting between the two teams this season.
Storm defeated Apex 5-4 on Sunday with a brace from Phil Anderson and single strikes from Ernest Signor, Clay Darrell and Raymond Beach, while Kaiwon Dill netted twice and Shakir Smith and Farid Elkarfa scored for Apex.
Knights lost their first game of the season, going down 8-6 to Titans.
K'wonde Lathan scored a hat-trick for Titans, while Conneko Trott struck twice, and Kyle Jones, Mikre Pace and Zeko White each found the net once.
Eoghan O'Dwyer scored four times for Knights who also got a goal each from Vincent Minors Jr. and Andre Famous.
The two sides top the standings with nine points with Storm having a superior goal difference heading into the final match of the regular season.
However, if the first encounter is anything to go by, Storm should have their hands full with what looks to be the only side that can beat them. Simmons, who is the league's leading scorer, is adamant that this 'super-classico' isn't about revenge but more about advancing with the easiest route to the finals with a win.
"We don't want revenge for a game that happened a few weeks back, revenge would be lifting the title again and showing everyone that the regular season is a build-up to the big occasion," said Simmons, whose team play Knights at the National Sports Centre on Thursday.
"Everybody goes out to win, and this time we look forward to the game for the simple fact that we can snatch the bye with a win over a side that beat us previously.
"It's very important to win the group because it allows you the easy passage to the semi-finals and you can get a bit of a breather.
"We have been doing our hard work in training and it looks like it is finally paying off, so we will continue to focus and look forward to what lies ahead.
"That's how it goes for us right now. It means a lot for us to have the same general nucleus and it helps to know how we each play.
"Last season we had a good team and this time around we have added new power and retooled. We are without Ajani Gibbons at the moment but Raymond (Beach) has come in and picked up the scoring duties from Antwan (Russell).
"When you really look at it, we haven't allowed ourselves to become complacent and doing things out of character for us, we are still training hard and looking for another ring."
Union solidified their place on top of the Red Division with a far superior goal difference when they beat Arsenal on Saturday.
Royal beat Kings 3-0 to claim third place and a first-round showdown with Arsenal in a week's time.
