Stylish Boulevard storm into cup final
Boulevard Blazers 3
Walker 8, Simmons 24, Burrows 35
Southampton R 1
Simons 80
Boulevard Blazers stormed into the FA Cup final in emphatic fashion last night handing Southampton Rangers a thrashing at Devonshire Rec that they are unlikely to forget in a hurry.
First half goals from Takeyhi Walker, Angelo Simmons and Hobte Burrows kept Blazers' double dream alive, and set up a final clash with Dandy Town Hornets.
Andrew Bascome's men dominated from the first minute to the last, and Rangers skipper Kamen Tucker will be particularly sore this morning after enduring a miserable night at both ends of the pitch.
Tucker was partially responsible for both the first and third goal, and also managed to miss a hatful of chances upfront. Not finished there he nearly created a fourth in the second half when his under-hit pass found it's way into the back of the net courtesy of Blazers substitute Sergio Robinson.
Fortunately for Tucker and his side, Robinson had drifted offside in the build up to the goal and it was disallowed.
Blazers' win came at a price however, with influential skipper Ajani Gibbons picking up another booking, and Angelo Simmons needlessly getting himself sent off towards the end of a increasingly scrappy and disjointed second half.
While Simmons will at the very least miss Sunday's league clash with Devonshire Colts, Gibbons' fate is less certain.
The booking took him perilously close to a suspension, and any more could rule him out of more important matches, such as the cup final itself, or the last league match of the season.
Gibbons might at least argue that his booking was necessary and came during the normal run of play, for Simmons there was no such excuse.
As referee Anthony Francis was attempting to calm the players following a clash between Che Simmons and Omari Hart, Angelo Simmons got involved in a scuffle with Hart.
The result was that Che Simmons and Hart were both booked, and Angelo Simmons was sent-off. It was as stupid as it was needless.
Blazers were 3-1 up at that point, having just conceded a late consolation goal to Rohann Simons, and the game, which was over as contest by half time, was in the final five minutes.
The sending-off, and subsequent free kick, set up a nervy end for Blazers, something that looked highly unlikely half way through proceedings.
It took Bascome's side just eight minutes to take the lead. Che Simmons got clear down the right, and Walker beat Tucker to the ball to volley the cross home.
Michael Parsons should have made it two moments later, but blazed his header over from inside the area.
If Tucker had been partially at fault for the first, the second was all down to goalkeeper Jason Smith, who parried a shot from Dion Stovell invitingly into Angelo Simmons' path.
In the time it took Blazers to score a second, Tucker and Simons had already missed two good chances to level the scores, and they were made to pay for their failings 10 minutes from half time.
Again Tucker was involved. This time he hacked down Stovell outside the box, and from the resulting free kick Burrows had a header deflected wide. He made no mistake from the corner, sealing the win for Blazers.
The second half was a scrappy affair, with Blazers sinking to Rangers' level.
Neither side really looked like scoring until the end, by which time the result was a foregone conclusion.
