Successful meet for Flyers youngsters

The Flyers track club have recently returned from a successful indoor track meet at Seton Hall University in New Jersey.

Travelling with 18 athletes to The Fast Camp Youth Development Meet, the team captured several top four finishes and placed first in several of the heats.

The Flyers won the High School Men's Division overall.

In the men's division, Kyle Virgil placed first in the 400 metres with a time of 50.41 seconds, which is one hundredth of a second off the World Youth Games standard and one second from the Carifta standard, and also finished second in the 55 metres in a time of 6.58 seconds.

Dage Minors ran the 1600 metres in a time of 5:13.30 to take podium honours, while finishing third in the 800 metres (2:20.20).

Darico Clarke came first in the 800 metres (2:03.50), and second in the 400 metres (52.38), while Shawn Herman finished third in the 3000 metres (10:03.01), reaching the 'B' standard for Carifta and fourth in the 1600 metres.

Kameron Creighton placed fourth in the 3000 metres (10:04.78) and has also reached the 'B' standard for Carifta.

Shuntae Hendrickson placed third in the 800 metres in a time of 2:31.50, while Ashley Berry finished second in the 1600 metres (5:36.60), and in the 3000 metres (11:23.82).

Megan Berry ran to a third place in the 1600 metres (6:07.00), and fourth in the 3000 metres (12:15.69). Keshuntay Graham placed fourth in the 400 metres (1:04.40) and fourth in the 55 metres (7.20).

"All in all this was a good competition for Flyers and it bodes well for the team preparation for the Carifta Games," said Donna Watson of the Flyers track club.
