Swifts get an Olympic experience
Swifts Hockey Club coach Dai Herman Smith has taken his squad to Canada to train with a former Olympic coach at the University of British Columbia.
The squad of 17, who flew out to Vancouver last weekend, have also taken to the opportunity to test themselves against some local opposition.
Having already beaten Tri-City Eagles thanks to a Georgia Harris goal, Swifts have a game against Vancouver Hawks today, before they face the Tri-City Eagles performance squad tomorrow.
In between they have been working with Canada's former men's Olympic team coach Shiaz Virjee. The opportunity to work with Virjee came out of the PanAm Cup held in Bermuda earlier this year when Virjee visited the Island to hold a high performance coaching course.
Squad: R Bardgett, R Gibbons, C Lemaire, E Chadderton, B Chlebek, K Tester, C Decker, A Gorman, G Harris, J Tester, K Osbourne, L Harvey, R Pearman, A Francis, I Smith, L Symonds, L Fray.
