Teen riders to compete in Ecuador

Two young horse riders will fly Bermuda's flag at a show jumping competition in Ecuador later this month.

Teenagers JayLynn Hines and Christy Corbett have been selected to represent the Island at the II Copa Internacional Mitad Del Mundo junior show jumping competition.

The pair will travel to South America after the Bermuda Equestrian Federation received an invitation from their Ecuadorian counterparts to send two riders to attend.

It is the first time that Hines, 13, and Corbett, 18, have competed at the event which will be held at Quito Golf and Tennis Club from January 27 to February 1.

At the event, which includes two days of qualifying rounds and one day for the final, Hines will compete in the Children B category while Corbett will ride in the International B section.

"There are over 100 young riders in the entire competition with over 40 of those coming from countries outside of Ecuador," said Linda Hines, Bermuda Equestrian Federation spokeswoman.

"The Bermuda Equestrian Federation is committed to the development of its riders and is pleased to be able to send JayLynn and Christy to this competition as a means to increase their skill levels, gain competition experience and, of course, be ambassadors for our Island."
