Teenager Hardart leads Championships
Teenager Jun Hardart carded a two-over-par 72 to cling to a slim one-shot lead after yesterday's opening round of the 2009 Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play Championships at Tuckers Point.
In second place is Canadian Micheal McCrimmom who shot a 73 followed by locals Daniel Augustus and Mark Phillips who had identical rounds of 74.
Hardart made a positive start to his round when he carded successive birdies on the third and fourth holes but lost momentum on the fifth hole where he dropped two shots after tapping in for a double bogey.
He also bogeyed the sixth and eighth holes to make the turn at two over par.
However, better fortunes awaited the promising golfer on the back nine where he birdied the par five 11th and par four 12th holes to go back to two-under where he remained the rest of the way.
With three rounds left to play the tournament remains wide open with only six-shots separating the top 12 players on the leaderboard.
Today will see the start of the Women's Amateur Championships, to be played over 54 holes, as well as a presentation on golf fitness and training at Tuckers Point.
