Three titles decided in junior race series
six categories have been locked away, while three are very much up for grabs.
Three of the five races in the series have mow been completed with two remaining. Each athlete's best three performances are used to calculate their points total, so the runners who have won all three races to date have clinched first place in their respective series age divisions.
In the youngest girls' age group, Danlia Martin has three wins out of three for 150 points, and therefore cannot be caught.
Talented swimmer Rebecca Sharpe is currently second with 95 points with Charlene Grant third with 80.
Danlia's brother Dennis has 95 points for third place in the boys' 11-12 age group but has an uphill battle to catch the two talented youngsters ahead of him.
The formidable Sheldon McKenzie is in second place with 115 points while out in front by himself, a position to which he must be growing accustomed, is Front Street Mile champion Kor-von Tucker.
With 150 points, Tucker will definitely repeat as a KPMG champion -- he won the 8-10 boys age group last year -- and looks a good bet for next year as he will remain in the 11-12 age category.
Going one better than her brother, another Front Street champion, Shellicia McKenzie has an uncatchable 150 points and has clinched the 11-12 girls' honours -- quite an achievement for a girl just turned 11, and no doubt she will be favourite to repeat next year in the same age group.
Jessica Palmer is in second place with 80 points closely followed by promising newcomer Rhiannon Hopkins in third with 70.
This Sunday's MRM Five Flat Miles Race could be pivotal in deciding the final places in the remaining three age groups.
In the 8-10 boys, who run a shorter course of approximately 1.6 miles, two more newcomers to the KPMG series, Jarzinho Basset and Ryan Hopkins lead the way with 120 and 90 points respectively.
Nine-year-old Dorian Armstrong is in third with 70 but the speedy Justin Collis could possibly overtake them all if he participates in the last two races of the series.
The race for the honours in the two older age groups is still wide open.
Chayce Smith leads the 13-15 boys with 80 points followed by Taijuan Talbot with 75 and Dominique Nanette and Coyatito Smith both on 65.
Talbot looked strong in winning last week's Telford Magic Mile but the other three in close contention are all talented triathletes who may be more comfortable over the much longer 2.5 mile junior course this Sunday.
Ashley Kirkpatrick is currently ahead in the 13-15 girls with 115 points with Flora Duffy in second with 100. Jenny Palmer is in third with 90 points and will test the two girls ahead of her but Duffy, fresh from a record breaking performance in the Front Street Mile, will be expected to "threepeat'' as a KPMG champion once the series is completed.
Entry forms for the MRM Five Flat Miles Race and the shorter race for the two younger junior age groups are in local sports shops.
Taijuan Talbot: The winner of last Saturday's 13-15 boys' Telford Electric Magic Mile now lies second in the same age group in the race for KPMG series honours.
