Title holders Town look for flying start
Premier Division champions Dandy Town will be eager to kick off their league campaign with a win when they host newly promoted St. David's at St. John's Field tomorrow.
The new look champions will look to get their season off and running at home knowing that the bulls-eye is squarely on their back and they will be desperate to get maximum points in a game they should win.
Defender Jared Peniston, however, isn't expecting anything to be given to his side by the new boys, noting that each team will have Hornets directly in their sights.
"Each game is not going be easy," said Peniston. "Teams want to beat the league champs and show what they are about.
"St. David's will be gunning for us and try stop us from the beginning.
"We just need to be humble and play the Town style of football."
With a season that is sure to have its fair share of upsets and eye opening results, Peniston insists that home form could be the difference early in the season and wants his side to hit the ground running.
Having a new skipper at the helm in Raymond Beach will surely lift the club with the mercurial striker being a vital cog in the Town wheel.
"We want to start the league off on a good note, especially at home in front of our fans.
"Our fans are there for us through thick and thin, especially last year and they deserve a good show.
"Town want to win, of course. We are the defending champs and we would like to repeat that this year. As long as we are committed, work hard and be humble, things should fall in to place for us.
"We lost the Charity Cup and, yes, it was the first game but we don't have excuses, the day wasn't ours to have.
"Every game means something if teams want to win.
"We have a new skipper for the season and I feel he can lead us to more glory."
Elsewhere on opening day, the division's other new club, St. George's, take on PHC at Wellington Oval in what should be a pulsating affair with both teams possessing a wealth of attacking options, while a new look Boulevard host Devonshire Colts at BAA Field.
At Southampton Oval, Southampton Rangers welcome FA Cup champions Devonshire Cougars while title hopefuls North Village make the journey to White Hill Field to clash with Somerset Eagles.
