Top seed Bray bundled out
Men's A singles top seed Andy Bray was stunned by number-four seed Gavin Manders 6-2, 6-2 in the Argus Open on Wednesday night.
The surprise victory puts Manders in today's final where he will take on either Jenson Bascome, the second seed or third seed David Thomas who were meet in the other semi-final last night.
In Wednesday's other matches, Thomas joined forces with Romar Douglas to defeat Johnny Holland and John Masters 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter-finals of the Men's Doubles.
Manders and Sasha Fisher went down 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 to Bascome and Zoe Fisher in the Open Mixed Doubles in a three and a half-hour match, which ended late into the night.
In the Men's B singles, unseeded Jack Keyes moved into the semi-finals with an easy win over Quaison Dey 6-2, 6-1.
In the Men's Senior singles top-seed Earl Leader disposed of Dennis Harris to take his spot in the final against Wilf Gonsalves who upset second seed Eugene Simmons 6-2, 6-4 in the semis.
Nick's medal double
Bermudian swimmer Nick Patterson won a silver and bronze medal at the recent Alberta Age Group Provincial Swimming Championships in Canada.
In the 50 metres butterfly event, the 14-year-old beat his age group record with a time of 30.01 seconds, capturing the bronze medal.
He also pulled out all of the stops in the 100 metres with a swim of 1:05.36, taking the silver medal and breaking Olympian Stephen Fahy's previous record, which had stood for 17 years.
Patterson also narrowly missed qualifying for the upcoming Canadian Age Group National Swimming Championships by a mere 7/100ths of a second.
Completing his sweep of the butterfly events, he just missed out on another medal in the 200 metres, finishing fourth and setting yet another age group record.
Morgan Hopkins displayed good form in the 200 metres breaststroke final, chipping six seconds offher previous best time as she continued her build-up to the Canadian Age Groups meet.
In the senior girls' age group, the quartet of Lara Loescher, Stephanie Myles, Claire Hirschberg and Jackie MacLellan made a number of finals. The sole senior boy, Alex Brown, made the final in the 200 metres backstroke.
Focus now shifts to the second FINA World Youth Swimming Championships currently underway in Monterrey, Mexico.
ISL name All-Stars
The Island Soccer League's (ISL) 2008 All-Star teams have been selected for the showpiece to be staged at the National Sports Centre on July 26.
The selection committee chose players on the recommendation of the league's coaches.
