Town win a fitting tribute after road crash tragedy
First of all I'd like to congratulate my former club, Dandy Town Hornets, on their penalty shoot-out triumph over Boulevard Blazers in the Dudley Eve final.
It just seemed so fitting for Hornets to lift the trophy in mind of the tragic death of young Machai Campbell who served the club so well as a solid defender.
I'm a bit too old to have ever played alongside Machai but I remember him coming through the ranks at St. John's Field as a small boy and hopefully Hornets' win has helped ease some of his family's pain at this difficult time.
Hornets' victory at Somerset Cricket Club on Tuesday night really brought back memories of our triumph in the Dudley Eve final in 2004 after our full back Randy Swan also died in a motorbike accident.
There seems to be a lot more bike accidents these days and it has to do with the amount of traffic on the roads. Obviously we all have to start taking more care on the roads and maybe the powers-that-be need to do some brainstorming to come up with ways to make Bermuda's roads safer.
As a Hornets fan I was in attendance at this week's final and thought we were the deserving winners. In truth we had enough second-half chances to ensure the match never went to a penalty shoot-out, which would have saved us all from a nail-biting finish.
Having said that, I felt Boulevard were the better team in the first period and they must have been kicking themselves for conceding so close to half-time.
Raymond Beach's equaliser just before the break really changed the game for me – it was a huge goal for us and set the tone for the second period.
As for me, I leave Bermuda for Boston at the weekend and it's been great to spend some time back on the Island with my family and friends.
I've been keeping myself in pretty good shape by training with Hornets as well as doing some fitness sessions with former national team coach Kenny Thompson – so I'm in good condition for the start of pre-season.
I then leave Boston for Seattle when I will meet up with my new Sounders team-mates and become acquainted with the city.
It will be a little strange moving to a new place where I don't really know anyone but this is part and parcel of being a professional footballer and it's not like I'm moving to the other side of the world.
My mom's already been looking at flight tickets to Seattle, so I'm sure I'll have plenty of visitors.
The club have sent me their pre-season schedule and we will be having training camps in California and Argentina. I've never been to Argentina before so I'm really looking forward to that trip and I'm determined to make a good start to my Sounders career.
