A clinical display of finishing saw North Village move a step closer to the Premier Division title after hitting relegation-bound Somerset Trojans for six at Bernard Park yesterday.

All of Village's goals came during a second half blitz with playmaker Ralph Bean helping himself to a hat-trick to ensure Village remain one point ahead of championship rivals Dandy Town.

Hot-shot striker Jason Lee continued his recent scoring spree by breaking the deadlock just after half-time with an ice cool finish after being put through by a inch-perfect pass from Bean.

Terryn Fray then rattled the crossbar from long range before getting himself on the scoresheet following good work by Devrae Tankard down the left wing.

Trojans' goalkeeper Shaquille Bean could only parry Tankard's cross into Fray's path who hammered home into an empty net.

By now Village were purring and extended their lead through Bean who drove home from the edge of the box after being teed up by youngster Pierre Smith.

Trojans were looking visibly crushed and had no answer for Village's free-flowing attacking football which led to their fourth goal when Bean spun past his marker and volleyed into the far corner.

Substitute Vernon Tankard then got in on the act with a fortuitous goal after his slightly sliced cross drifted agonisingly over 'keeper Bean and into the top corner. Trojans had long thrown in the towel and it was no surprise when Village added a sixth through Bean who smacked home a free-kick from just outside the box.

The emphatic scoreline could have been even greater had referee Stephen Allen awarded Village a blatant penalty when Darin Minors chopped down Lee in the box.

The Rams, who beat Hornets 3-1 last week, also dominated possession throughout the first period but kept the powder dry for the second period.

"We didn't bring our scoring boots to the first half but we certainly brought them to the second half," said coach Shaun Goater.

"All we can do is keep winning and our destiny is in our own hands.

"This was a very solid performance and I'm very pleased with how we played. Ralph got his hat-trick and we need our big players to step up now because all of our remaining games our big ones."

Yesterday's defeat leaves Trojans five points adrift of safety with just two games remaining on the fixture list.
