The West Enders' future appears to be bright as the youngsters almost clean swept the six divisions of the recent Kappa Alpha Psi Pee Wee Soccer Extravaganza at the National Sports Centre.

Somerset captured all three of the girls' divisions, winning the Under-10 title with an 8-0 thumping of PHC Zebras.

Their Under-12s saw off Dandy Town 6-0 while the Under-14s were entrenched in a close final that saw them prevail 1-0 over last year's champions PHC.

In the Boys' Under-8 category, Somerset Reds, the defending champions, marched away with the title again, beating Hamilton Parish 4-1.

The Under-10s once again saw the Somerset Reds battle last year's champions Hamilton Parish, and beat them 10-9 on penalty kicks after the match ended 1-1 at the end of regulation.

In the last final match of the day North Village Rams Reds beat the Devonshire Cougars Greens 2-1.

All of the winning teams and runners-up each received individual trophies, donated by the Island Soccer League (ISL), and championship rings were presented, courtesy of Kappa Alpha Psi.

Special recognition was made of former football legends who were on hand to witness the day's activities and present trophies – including the likes of Earl (Townsey) Russell, John Tucker, Joe Trott, Fred (Pinks) Lewis, Clyde Best, Joe (Flacky) Wilson and the late Frankie Brewster.

During the two days of football more than 850 youngsters participated in the tournament which is in its 12th year.
