Under-18s hunting for first victory
Bermuda Under-18s will continue their quest for a first win at this year's Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket Tournament when they take on a combined Antigua squad in Barbados today.
Led by skipper Terryn Fray, who represented Bermuda at this year's Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia, the tourists suffered back-to-back losses in their opening two fixtures at the hands of Dominica Schools and Queen's Park Cricket Club earlier this week.
This is the fourth consecutive year Bermuda have been represented at the tournament, an event Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) president Reggie Pearman believes is vital to the Island's continued development at grassroots level.
"This festival is a great opportunity for the boys to take part in a comprehensive training regime and compete regularly for a solid three-week period," Pearman said.
Despite a top knock of 44 from promising all-rounder Joshua Gilbert and outstanding bowling spells by spinners Tre Govia (three for 14) and Marcus Johnson (three for 34), Bermuda suffered a two-wicket defeat against Dominica Schools at YMPC in their opening fixture.
In the second encounter against Queen's Park, Govia led the batting with 46 followed by useful contributions from skipper Fray (28) and all-rounder Machai Campbell who stroked an unbeaten 24.
Govia also shone with the ball, picking up three for 14 off eight overs with his leg spin.
