Wade-Fray on form despite loss

Jenaya Wade-Fray

Bermuda's Jenaya Wade-Fray and her University of Tennessee Chattanooga Lady Mocs team-mates suffered a narrow loss to Western Carolina Catamounts 56-52, snapping a 24-game Southern Conference home winning streak in the process

Shanara Hollinquest led the Lady Mocs (20-8, 16-3) with 16 points at the weekend, while Wade-Fray had 13 and eight rebounds and La Condra Mason finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Heather Swayne led the Catamounts (16-11, 12-6) with 13 points.

The defeat ended the Lady Mocs' hot streak and left them a half-game behind Samford in the conference standings.

The Lady Mocs, who are chasing a 10th consecutive Southern Conference regular-season title, close out their season on Saturday at Samford, who hosted Western Carolina yesterday.

In the final minutes, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga had several chances to tie or take the lead in their Southern Conference game against Western Carolina.

But the Mocs, who had just eight players in uniform, could never get over the hump.

The Catamounts outhustled the Mocs for most of the game and out rebounded them throughout, grabbing a couple of crucial rebounds in the final minute to preserve a 56-52 win in front of a crowd of 2,405 at McKenzie Arena.
