Wade in running for Cougars' top job
Former national team players Meshach Wade and Dwayne (Streaker) Adams have emerged as the latest candidates to be linked to the vacant coaching job at Devonshire Cougars.
Wade came up through Cougars' youth ranks before bursting onto the senior domestic football scene with PHC Zebras, while Adams enjoyed a brief playing stint with the Big Cats after severing ties with North Village two seasons ago.
Also said to be on Cougars' coaching shortlist to replace the departed Devarr Boyles is former Vasco da Gama and Boulevard Blazers coach John Rebello.
Devonshire Recreation Club officials are scheduled to meet before the end of the week to deliberate on who their new head coach will be.
Wade, who continues to make a steady recovery from a hip injury suffered in a road accident last year, met with club officials earlier this week and is said to be very keen on taking on the role.
Wade has previous coaching experience having coached at Southampton Rangers, Hamilton Parish and more recently Dandy Town, while Adams famously coached Village to the Triple Crown (Premier Division, Friendship Trophy and FA Cup) during the 2005-06 campaign.
Rebello won multiple titles with a star-studded team at now defunct Vasco during the 1990s including the coveted, yet elusive, Triple Crown in 1997-98.
Cougars had originally targetted Boulevard Blazers coach Andrew Bascome – who coached the Big Cats to maiden Premier Division and Friendship Trophy honours during the 2004-05 campaign – but have seemingly switched their attention elsewhere.
