We can bounce back, says Edness
Wicketkeeper Jekon Edness is adamant Bermuda can regroup from their disappointing seven-wicket slump to Uganda and redeem themselves in the one day games.
Bermuda's inexperienced team looked worryingly average at best against the Africans during the Intercontinental match at the National Sports Centre, which finished one day early.
But an optimistic Edness saw positives in the disappointing defeat and believes the side can bounce back if they can correct their mistakes.
"It's always disappointing to lose but we have a very young team out there and for some of them it's their first time playing in the longer version of the game.
"We can take some positives out of the match," said Edness.
"The wicket was difficult to bat on, but at the end of the day both teams had to bat on it.
"Some of our players aren't used to batting for long spells as we're used to the shorter version of the game, so it could be a hindrance for us but it's down to experienced players and hoping they can perform while the younger guys get accustomed to it.
"There was a feeling of optimism in the side that we could bowl them but credit to them, they batted better in their second innings and maybe we could have bowled a bit better but that's how it goes really."
Edness was quick to point out the faults of the side, particularly in the batting department that saw the Island's so-called specialist batsmen look like schoolboys at times.
And the Somerset Cup Match wicketkeeper reckons there will be a different look to the scorecard when the teams square off again in a 50 over match on Saturday.
"We didn't bat as long as we should have but also their bowling attack was a little more disciplined than ours, but we could have batted better and that's what it all boiled down to," he said.
"We have to do better going into the next game.
"We will obviously be more aggressive with the bat and they will most likely have the same attack so we will look to rectify the mistakes and come out better in the one-day games
"We are in a rebuilding phase and it can only get better."
The one-day games start at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, although neither of them are full internationals as the two sides lost their ODI status at the World Cup qualifiers in April.
