Williams bowls Devonshire to win
Devonshire Rec. 146
Social Club 119
In a surprisingly low-scoring Premier Division contest at Devonshire Rec. yesterday Devonshire Rec. defeated Social Club by 27 runs with Dennis Williams, Lamont Brangman and Allen Richardson combining to snatch nine wickets between them.
Social Club were expected to have little difficulty in reaching their meagre winning target of 146 but the bowling trio was not about to concede defeat to Charlie Marshall's team
Medium pacer Williams spearheaded Devonshire's bowling in the spirited fight back with a haul of four wickets for 34 runs off 10 overs, while seamer Lamont Brangman followed closely behind with three wickets for 33 off 9.3 overs. Veteran Allen Richardson chipped in with two wickets for 20 runs of three overs of spin.
Astonishingly Social Club succumbed in just 32.3 overs with few batsmen able to offer any semblance of resistance. Ricky Hoyt topped their batting with 21 while Jeffrey Tyrrell struck 17 not out, DeTroy Smith 16 and Nakia Smith 15.
Once placed on 57 for four but with DeTroy Smith batting comfortably along with Hoyt, victory seemed to be well within their reach especially with Charlie Marshall among those bats left. But once Smith and Hoyt were separated the bottom fell out and with Marshall unable to add his customary magic with the bat after scoring just six was no hope left for Social.
Earlier Devonshire got a decent start with openers Oladepo Fredericks and Tori Henry hitting half-centuries, Fredericks finished on 50 with five fours while Henry wound up with 55 after striking five fours and two sixes.
Their slow approach however ate up a lot of overs, leaving Devonshire bats the task of scrambling for quick runs later with a few overs left after the two had added 97 before Fredericks was dismissed.
As it was no further batting feats were to follow and their final total was rather disappointing at the time. From 129 for five they added a mere 17 during a dramatic collapse.
Nelson Bascome Jr. was the top bowler for Social with a haul of five wickets for 31 runs off 10 overs with a maiden.
