Bermuda's Under-18 national team finally had something to cheer about after recording their first victory at the Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Tournament in Barbados on Tuesday.

According to coach Andre Manders it was a timely boost for their upcoming clash against defending champions Trinidad and Tobago.

"We are all excited, this victory was great for the boys who had come off four losses," he said. "Now we are all encouraged going into the next game because the fellows really gave a great display."

Samuel Jackson were restricted during their 40 overs by the bowling of Tre Govia and Marcus Johnson who grabbed two wickets apiece. Govia finished with two for 20 off eight overs and Johnson two for 31 off seven overs.

Bermuda's batting was spearheaded by skipper Terryn Fray with a fine –45 while Sinclair Smith followed on –28 and Deunte Darrell chipped in with 24.

Manders said the previous game against Jamaica, which was abandoned because of rain, gave his team comfort as it showed they were improving by becoming the first team to score more than 150 runs against their opponents. Bermuda finished on 164-7 off 35 overs, while Jamaica replied with 13-1 when the game was called off.

"Jamaica have a tough little side and everybody has been having trouble scoring against them, but our boys did well and it would have been interesting to see how the result would have turned out," said the Bermuda coach.
