Woodwork agony for Hogges
Bermuda Hogges 0
Ironbound Express 1
Ten man Bermuda Hogges were twice denied by the woodwork in the final minute against Ironbound Express who hung on for victory at BAA Field last night.
With just seconds of the game remaining Tyrell Burgess poked an effort against the post after being sent clear by substitute Taykeyhi Walker, before Devrae Tankard hammered a header against the crossbar from the ensuing corner kick.
It was one of those nights for the Hogges who were reduced to ten men when Nahki Wells was harshly dismissed for his involvement in a fracas between both sets of players late in the second period.
Hogges had fallen behind after just seven minutes when Roger Lee's poor clearance dropped invitingly into the path of Frank Alesci who volleyed his shot beyond goalkeeper Freddy Hall from the edge of the box.
It was a busy night for Hall who had to pull off a string of fine saves, especially during the first half, but a draw would not have been an injustice for the Hogges who finished strongly despite their numerical disadvantage.
