You don't have to like your team-mates
I was bit surprised to hear this week that Wayne Bridge is refusing to play for England if John Terry is in the side.
Everyone knows that Terry had an affair with Bridge's girlfriend – or I should say former girlfriend – and that the two players were good mates when they were at Chelsea.
Bridge, who now is at Manchester City, has the chance of a lifetime to go to South Africa as a result of England's number one left back Ashley Cole coming down with a broken ankle which could keep him out of the tournament
But because of the affair Bridge now says he can't be in the same team as Terry who was stripped of the captaincy by manager Fabio Capello when the affair became public.
Well, if I was Bridge, I would definitely be playing for England.
After all when the affair happened, Bridge had already broken up from his girlfriend. Terry may have acted wrong but that doesn't mean you cut short your international career. How many people would love to go and play in the World Cup?
And I will tell you that this is not the first time something like this has happened among players in a team.
More importantly it doesn't matter if you are good mates with all of your fellow players on the team. Just look around the world of sports – there have been many, many teams who have had players who don't like each other – and many winning teams at that.
A good example is the Manchester United 1999 Treble winning side which had Teddy Sheringham and Andy Cole in it. They both could not stand each other and would not even talk to each other. But that team was incredibly successful.
You do not have to like someone to play with that person. It is not like Terry and Bridge are going to be rooming together.
And now England really do face a problem at left back if Cole is not healed from his injury by the time June comes around. If I was Bridge I would put it all to the back of my mind and just get out there and play. He may not have this chance again.
Today it is also going to be interesting to see what happens when Manchester City travel to Chelsea for a league match. Bridge has said he may not shake Terry's hand before the match which is a bit silly really.
England also have another problem they must keep an eye on – and that is with the health of new captain Rio Ferdinand who will miss Wednesday's friendly against Egypt.
The Manchester United player has had a hard time of it this year with a recurrence of a long-term back injury.
England had better hope he is fit by the time the World Cup comes around because it would be a problem if they have Cole and Ferdinand both out of that back line.
Among the other friendlies next week in World Cup warm-ups is Brazil taking on Ireland.
The great Ronaldo who has scored more goals in the World Cup than anyone in history is hoping to be part of the team that coach Dunga leads to South Africa.
But I have my doubts whether he will be there. I think there is a small chance though – especially if he is scoring for Corinthians but Ronaldo has already won two World Cups in 1994 and 2002.
He has said he will retire after the 2011 season so I believe that will be it for him. I can't see him making the squad for South Africa.
For Tuesday's game Dunga has chosen forwards Robinho, Adriano, Nilmar, and Luis Fabiano. Ronaldinho also has not been picked but I do hope Dunga takes him this June since he looks so good for AC Milan this season.
France take on European champions Spain next week in another friendly and I was very happy to see that Louis Saha has been chosen.
Saha is such a class striker but has been hit with injuries in his career but he is playing so well for Everton now.
This will be the first time in three years that Saha has played for France – hopefully the wait will not be that long again.
One match I certainly enjoyed this week was Inter Milan's 2-1 win over Chelsea in the Champions League. It was good, quality stuff and the return leg promises to be exciting.
It seemed only a couple of weeks ago that Russian player Roman Pavlyuchenko was moaning about not getting any playing time for Spurs. Well he certainly made his case over the past week. He scored two goals last weekend in the 3-0 victory over Wigan and followed that up with another two goals in the 4-0 FA Cup win over Bolton mid-week.
And Stoke must be happy with their extra-time win over Manchester City while Reading beat West Brom to go into the last eight for the first time in more than 80 years. That's the FA Cup for you!
Tomorrow Manchester United meet Aston Villa in the League Cup final and Villa have looked so good this season. Hopefully it will be a fun match for all to watch.
