Youth baseball

Youth Sports Program baseball competition where Bank of Bermuda Royals and English Sports Shop Phillies are locked in a two-way tie for the top spot.

Each are unbeaten from five matches and on Monday battled to a 9-9 tie at the United States Naval Annex, leaving them on nine points apiece, three ahead of second place Batson Swan Reds.

Monday also saw Butterfield and Steinhoff Mariners hammer Ace Mets 17-10 in an exciting encounter.

Saturday saw both the Rookie and Little Leagues in action. In the former, Royals defeated Mariners 10-6, Phillies downed Reds 18-15 and Mets were 11-10 victors over Bermuda Forwarders Pirates.

Mailboxes Unlimited Cardinals outlasted Island Press Mariners 8-5 in Little League play, while Grey and Kempe Pirates fought to a 7-7 standoff against World Distributors Reds.

DARTS DRT Judy Semos and Jean Clark are the new Ladies Darts League's Doubles champions following the tournament at the East End Mini Yacht Club.

The duo were in top form as they breezed through the first and quarter-final rounds, before being stretched by Mary Phillipson and Margaret Bleeker on reaching the semifinals.

Bleeker and Phillipson, after winning two tough early matches -- both by 2-1 scorelines -- managed to take a game from the eventual champions, but were unable to maintain their charge, going down 1-2.

The final was similarly enthralling, as Semos and Clark met Terry Cartwright and Dawn Bealing. As expected this match went down to the wire, however Semos and Clark ultimately proved too steep a task for their opponents, winning 2-1.

Defending champions, Elizabeth Simons and Brenda Hutton suffered the ignominy of being ousted in the first round, 2-1 losers to Rhonda Hill and Norma Showers.
