Ambitious teen Outerbridge hits hat-trick on York debut

Reggie Lambe is making his way through the ranks at Ipswich, Khano Smith is at Lincoln City and now Jordan Outerbridge is trying to make a name for himself at another English club, York City.

The Bermudian youngster is part of the club's youth academy and has already made his mark with the team following his arrival from Bishopthorpe White Rose, who were unbeaten in Outerbridge's three years with the club.

After a six-week trial with York in August, he played his first game for the Under-14s and scored a hat-trick on his debut against Lincoln City while playing on the left side of midfield.

A fan of Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon, the teenager has already set his sights on making a living out of football, and the next rung on the ladder is getting an apprentice with York when he turns 16.

"I want to be successful, I want to take it on, see where I can go from York, and see if I can go any higher," said Outerbridge. "And when you get to the youth team you start getting paid . . ."

Outerbridge is already aware of the type of commitment needed to succeed in the game. He plays football for York City on Sundays, York schoolboys on Saturdays, his school team on Wednesdays, and also trains for two hours several times a week.

And if he wasn't aware of what was needed before, then dad Wilfred is.

"It's a big commitment," said Wilfred Outerbridge. "It's the type of commitment that Reggie Lambe has shown, that is the type of commitment you have to show. You can be skillful, but you have to have the dedication to make it."

Father and son appear to be equally committed to achieving success. In the past three months the pair have covered 6,000 miles travelling around the UK to play football.

With Lambe on the Island to play for Bermuda against Trinidad and Tobago, Jordan Outerbridge is also planning on picking the older player's brains about what it took him to get along at Ipswich.

"I'd like to speak to him," said Outerbridge. "I'll go and watch the first game, I like to watch to see how people play, and see how I can improve."
