Anyone's race as winners stay away

Tomorrow's Bank of Bermuda Foundation Triathlon will be wide open as last year's winners Tyler Butterfield and Flora Duffy are not competing in the event.

The competition is set to take place at Clearwater Beach in St. David's tomorrow, kicking off at 8am, with the change of venue form Albuoy's Point allowing junior triathletes to compete in a full triathlon rather than just a duathlon.

Bank of Bermuda Foundation and the Bermuda Triathlon Association are hoping for a record number of participants for this year's event, which marks the 20th year that the Bank of Bermuda Foundation has sponsored the race.

Events will include the Individual Sprint Triathlon and Team Sprint Triathlon for adults, comprising of a 750-metre swim, a 20K cycle and a 5K run. There will also be an Individual Junior and Team Triathlon for younger athletes.

They will be split into two categories: ages 7-10 and 11-14. Juniors aged 7 to 10 will swim 100m, cycle 5K and run 1K, while the 11-14 year olds will swim 200m, cycle 10K and run 2K.

Juniors start the event at 8am, before the junior team event starts at 8.30, while Individual and team Sprint triathlon competitors set out at 9am and 9.30am respectively.

Also taking place tomorrow is the Bermuda Reading Association's Fun Walk and Run starting at Botanical Gardens, near the Camden entrance. All are invited to come out and enjoy the event, with late registration available on the day, with the event scheduled to start at 9am.
