Bascome eases into Open final
Top seed Jenson Bascome advanced to the Men's Open singles final at the Argus Open with a straight sets win over MacKenzie Bean, 6-4, 6-1.
Bean gave his best effort and several times ended down on the court after diving to retrieve shots. But Bascome played his signature game, driving the ball and waiting for the put-away shots.
In this weekend's final, Bascome faces the semi-final winner between number two seed Julien Pinot and number five seed David Jenkins, which was scheduled to be played last night.
Number two seed in the Women's Open singles, Tyler Smith, had to work hard to beat Carolita Joseph in three sets.
Smith won the first but the second was not so easy as Joseph put on pressure and forced her opponent into some unusual errors.
But Smith raised her game in the last set to win 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 and earn a spot in the final against the semi-final winner of the match between top seed Cayla Cross and third seed Janet Grainger.
