Bascome is excused from final day duties
A new precedent may have been set over the weekend as national team trio Herbie Bascome (assistant coach), son Oronde Bascome and off spinner Tamauri Tucker were all excused from national team duty to represent their domestic clubs on the fourth and final day of Bermuda's Intercontinental Cup match against Namibia at the National Sports Centre (NSC) on Saturday.
The trio all took part in a Premier Division clash involving St.George's and Cleveland County at Wellington Oval whilst their Bermuda team-mates lost against Namibia.
The junior Bascome had been dismissed in Bermuda's second innings during the final session of the third day's play while Tucker was reserve for the match.
Assistant coach Bascome had been working alongside national coach Gus Logie who last night defended his decision to grant the trio leave with three sessions remaining in the match.
"They were released by me because they were no longer involved in the game and it should not have been a problem," Logie said.
"Their clubs (St.George's and Cleveland) were talking about demotion and so it was appropriate for them to go and play."
