Beach's winning return to Hornets

Raymond Beach and Jahron Dickinson both scored for Dandy Town Hornets as they saw off a sluggish Devonshire Colts in the second match of a double header at BAA on Saturday.

Beach, who left Devonshire Cougars over the summer and returned to the St. Johns' Road side, slotted home the second of two quick goals, enabling new coach Meshach Wade to get off to a winning start.

It took some 31 minutes for the games first goal to be scored after Colts striker Aljame Zuill came close to opening his side's account, but his shot from the edge of the box went wide.

The goal scored by Dickinson came from a corner, which saw the ball slide across the face of goal, partially cleared and falling to Dickinson.

With the goal at his mercy he made no mistake of his shot burying his attempt in the back of the net, leaving keeper Khabir Dill no chance having seen the ball go through a maze of players.

And it was Dickinson who created the second goal, his low shot not being held onto by Dill leaving Beach, who was in a typical poachers mood, the simple task of tapping the ball in from close range.

Coach Wade gave his side great compliments after the game, stating that with a new system and players at the club, the side are slowly coming into their own and will be a force to be reckoned with in the not too distant future.

" Going into the match I asked the team to keep organised and work hard with this being the first match for a lot of us," said Wade.

"Communication was the key to this victory.

"I saw a few things we can work on, but the season is still some time away so we can work out the problems and move on from here

"Our next match will be against Village and them losing 7-1 last week will have no bearing on how we will enter our next match. They have some quality players down at Village.

"But our main strategy will be fitness, that's what I stress.

"I know it will be a hard match for us, but not a match we should go into feeling we have to play at our best to win.

"We know we can beat them so we will stick to our gameplan and see how it goes from there.

"It's early, we have a good bunch of youngsters coming through our ranks.

"There is a good structure already in place with a good junior programme so it is all here.

"I am here to get the club back to winning ways and hopefully I can be successful at that job.

"This is the first game and we are off to a good start so we will look to build on this."
