Bermuda prepare for Tri invasion

The women-only triathlon series, SheRox, will make its first appearance in Bermuda this weekend and hundreds of athletes are travelling to the Island to take part.

Bermuda Olympian Flora Duffy left Colorado yesterday to travel back for the race, while the likes of Hawaii Ironman participants Karen Smith and Karen Bordage are also expected to compete against a host of international triathletes.

Taking place in and around the Fairmont Southampton Hotel, the sprint version of the discipline will involve a 0.8 kilometre swim, a 20 kilometre bike ride, and a 5K run.

"The Fairmont Southampton is thrilled to be the host hotel for the SheROX Triathlon in Bermuda," said Shelley Meszoly, Regional Director of Sales & Marketing, Fairmont Bermuda.

"We are looking forward to welcoming the participants and we will ensure they enjoy their stay with us. We are excited to be working with the organisers to grow this event in the years to come."

Starting at 7 a.m. on Sunday at the Fairmont's private beach, the bike section will see riders travel to Barnes Corner, where they make their first turn, go back to Paget traffic lights where they turn again, and eventually finish in Horseshoe Bay where the run will start.

The course for the run will take participants from Horseshoe to The Reefs where they will turn around before eventually finishing back at the Fairmont Southampton. Throughout the duration of the race South Shore will be closed to traffic.
