Bermuda suffer another defeat
Antigua Combined 234-5
Bermuda 114
Bermuda's Under-18 national team slumped to their third straight defeat at the Sir Gary Sobers International Schools Tournament in Barbados yesterday despite a fine all-round performance by the promising Joshua Gilbert.
Gilbert, who represented an Americas Development Select at the Clico International Under-15 Tournament in the Caribbean earlier this year, picked up two wickets for 25 runs and then stroked a watchful 19 off 45 balls.
However, the Somerset all-rounder's fine efforts were still not enough to prevent Bermuda from going down by 120 runs against a powerful combined Antigua squad, led by half centuries from Rakeem Cornwall and Shane Burton.
Bermuda's opponents found runs easy to come by batting on a flat pitch with Cornwall and Burton leading the way with blistering knocks of 89 and 64 respectively.
Supporting Gilbert in the bowling department were Willow Cuts seamer Kevon Fubler and St.George's leg spinner Tre Govia who took one wicket apiece.
Required to score at over five runs per over, Bermuda fell well short of Antigua's total in their reply with only Gilbert, Govia (16 not out) and skipper Terryn Fray (10) offering resistance.
Jones was the pick of his team's bowlers with four for 24, before Bermuda were skittled out on the final ball of the 38th over.
Bermuda will now be hoping for a change in fortunes when they meet Phoenix Academy today.
