Bermuda's juniors to play at top UK venue

Bermuda's young rugby players will play at one of the most famous venues in the world when they travel to the UK this weekend.

The under-11s and under-12s have been invited to play in the Bath Mini Rugby Festival, which will be held at Bath Rugby club's iconic Rec ground.

And while the under-11s will play on an outside practice pitch, the under-12s will play in the same arena that down the years has played host to some of the greats of the game.

Bermuda's invite comes on the back of previous tours to Cobham in England in 2007, and Cayman Islands last year, and proves just how far the mini-rugby programme on the Island has come in recent years.

The two squads were chosen from players who participated in the Bermuda Rugby Football Union's mini rugby programmes last season.

"Our players compete against each other every week during the season so to be able to travel and play against teams from big UK club programmes is very exciting," said under-11s coach Robbie Dickinson. "The players have been training very hard for several months and are really looking forward to this opportunity."

The Island's youngsters will take on teams from Somerset, Cornwall, Wales, as well as sides from Bath Rugby's youth section. The festival, which takes place on Sunday will see the teams divided into two pools, with the top two sides from each pool going into the semi-finals.

With the festival not officially beginning until Sunday, the Bermuda teams will play games against King Edward School in Bath, before watching the final game of the Guinness Premiership season between Worcester Warriors and London Irish.
