Biker Richards encouraged by Lexington performance

Antoine Richards racing at the the Mid-Ohio Raceway in Lexington, Ohio, round six of ten in the AMA PRO Supersport Championships. Richards finished 18th out of 23 riders

Antoine Richards was pleased with his performances over the weekend as he finished 18th in both of his rides to end an encouraging two days of racing at the Mid-Ohio Raceway in Lexington, Ohio – round six of ten in the AMA PRO Supersport Championships.

The round marked the first time that the 22-year-old had raced on the testing Lexington track, a distinct disadvantage against competitors who have been on the track countless times.

The Bermudian, who has competed in a handful of races so far in the season, admitted the track was the hardest he had been on with many treacherous turns.

"I am very pleased with how the weekend went, I think we had a very productive weekend," said Richards. "I set myself some goals before I left Bermuda and I hit pretty much every one of them, so I'm definitely pleased.

"The track I raced on was probably the toughest track I have been on, it is notorious for its turns because it is all technical turns and a lot are blind corners and you have to know where you are going. If not you will be in the grass.

"That was the advantage they had on me with a lot of the riders knowing the track having raced there before.

"It is hard to focus with everything that is going around you and the chance of hitting something or what have you."

One major hindrance in Richards' preparation was his bike, a problem that denied valuable track time in the build-up to the race.

But the issue never seemed to make a huge difference with the speedster crediting his performance to fitness preparation.

Next up for Richards is this upcoming weekend's 'Race of Champions' at the Bermuda Motorsports Park at Southside, with the trip to round six in California too big an ask.

With a few more race days in his sights before the US season finishes, he is still looking for more sponsorship funds to guarantee his spot for those dates.

"It (Lexington) was also one of the most physically demanding tracks for me because after the last I went to I came home knowing I had to work on my fitness and it paid off.

"My fastest lap was my last lap of the weekend, which showed that I was fitter than before.

"I'm competing in the race weekend at Southside this weekend in the Race of Champions and I think that will help as well even though the track isn't as difficult as abroad, but the racing is tough so it will be good.

"The next race day in the US is this coming weekend in California but I am planning to go to Virginia for the one after that.

"I am still trying to get people to join my sponsorship team so I can raise enough funds to get to the races."
