BLTA stage 'Play and Stay' event

Tyler Smith along with the rest of Bermuda's national players will be at the fun day on Sunday at the WER Joell Tennis Stadium.

All of Bermuda's national tennis players will be on show this Sunday when Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association stage their 'Play and Stay' celebration at the WER Joell Stadium.

BLTA boss David Lambert said this week: "This is a special event. During this time the board of directors, all of our sub-committees along with our national players of 2009 and 2010 will be recognised for their accomplishments."

And he also noted that Anthony Jeremiah, the development officer for English speaking countries in Bermuda's region, will be on the Island.

"He has a full itinerary while he is here. During the week he will be attending the training session of our 13 and under players and will also meet all of the parents of our national team players.

"He will also attend the national coordinator meeting on Wednesday and he will meet the Olympic committee and will have a meeting with the Director of Sport."

But Sunday will all be about having fun.

"We want everyone to come down to the stadium. This will be the first time in a while that all of our national team players, from number one Gavin Manders to (teenage sensation) Tyler Smith will be together."

The 'Play and Stay' refers to setting up miniature courts with specially designed nets and equipment. "We can make about eight courts in one (full court) and we will be using special sponge balls and wooden racquets honouring the past.

"The Premier (Dr. Ewart Brown) will be coming down along with other members of Parliament. We really want the people of Bermuda to come out and support our young national team players who travel overseas to represent Bermuda in competitions like the Fed and Davis Cup."

The event will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. "There will also be prizes to be won," added Lambert.

Anthony Jeremiah from the ITP will be at the WER Joell Tennis Stadium for this Sunday's 'Play and Stay' fun event.
