Contest leads dinghy fleet on opening day
Contest III picked up where it left off last year, winning two out of three races on the opening day of the 2009 fitted dinghy season in St. George's Harbour on Saturday.
Watched by a huge flotilla of pleasure boats, skipper Somers Kempe guided Contest to victory in the first race of the day for the Heritage Trophy and then grabbed the Anniversary Cup in the second race.
The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club dinghy failed in her bid to take all three wins as Challenger II, out of Sandys Boat Club, crossed the line first in the final race of the day for the Leon D. Fox Cup.
Veteran skipper Jordy Walker brought out the dinghy Bloodhound for the first time in a decade but suffered an inauspicious start to the season, finishing last in the first two races and sank shortly before the last.
