League champions Dandy Town believe quality and not quantity is the key to acquiring new players.

The Hornets have picked up four top players ahead of the new season, as shown in a list revealed yesterday by Bermuda Football Association who named those who have moved during the first transfer period.

Town have brought in defenders Joseph Butterfield from Devonshire Colts, Kamen Tucker from Southampton Rangers, and Fabian Frankson from PHC, while Wolde Place will return home after a spell with Boulevard.

While many teams gained and lost multiple players, Hornets signed up key members from serious contenders to their league title.

Boulevard and Somerset Eagles lost 10 and 11 players respectively, while St. George's, St. David's and BAA all picked up six.

Devonshire Colts were also busy in the transfer period, gaining five new players and rivals Cougars brought in Jamie Smith and welcomed back Chris Caisey from Hamilton Parish to add quality and depth to their squad.

Hornets assistant coach, Jomar Wilkinson, is upbeat about the signings, admitting that defence was always a priority for the club during the closed season.

"The players we have picked up are quality assets that we need," said Wilkinson. "We have always thought we needed to get stronger in the defensive area so for these guys to come in now is huge for us.

"We knew our younger players still need a few more years before they can come into the senior team, so this is a plus.

"Obviously we have got three good defenders in Kamen, Fabian, and Joseph and with Kamen and Fabian we have two versatile defenders who can play all along the back.

"Watching Fabian in the ISL showed me he definitely has an offensive game and can adapt to situations well.

"Wolde is also coming back home and we know what he is capable of so we will only need to get him match fit in order for him to come in and contribute."

A key loss for the club was not for a transfer but for overseas commitments with golden boot winner and league MVP Nahki Wells leaving the Island to further his studies.

With such a potent weapon missing from the champions arsenal, Wilkinson insists his troops will put their best foot forward as they step up their pre-season training.

"Nahki won't be here due to school and it will be difficult to do the things we did last year in terms of scoring goals.

"He was inspirational and came to the fore when we needed something, so along with Aaron Simons it will be a big miss.

"It will difficult to do what we did last year but we are shaping up nice.

"We won't know how we are looking until we have a few games under our belts and see where we are."
