DeGraff: Draw will not be a big setback

North Village skipper Sammy DeGraff says a draw against fellow league hopefuls PHC this weekend won't be a huge setback in the bigger picture in the battle for league honours with his side preparing to face judgment day in their upcoming league fixtures.

Village, two points off the pace of leaders Dandy Town, face off against PHC who are four points behind Town, at Bernard Park tomorrow in a match that could see one or both sides fall further behind in the run in to league honours.

While the winner of the match will continue with their goal of hoisting the coveted league title, a draw won't be a bad result for either considering the current state of both sides.

The Rams have a few players missing for various reason, while the visiting Zebras are currently in a bit of a rut, having been dumped out of the Friendship Trophy and FA Cup in recent times while their recent 1-1 home draw against Devonshire Colts hampered the side in their league run.

"From here on out every match will be a big game for all those involved in the title hunt," said DeGraff. "All we can do is take it one game at a time and focus on the league and see where the chips lie.

"If we draw it will be a little setback but not as detrimental as a loss would be.

"We want to get the three points but it will be a difficult match."

"We don't have injuries per say but I think we have few guys that won't play due to various reasons, and especially in the past week with the weather hindering our training and so forth.

"The hardest part of this game coming up is the break we have had since our last game and everything else that has gone on.

"We have a few guys that have cards and may not be able to play, and few players away but they also have a few players out so it should be interesting.

"Nevertheless, it is a big game for whoever is on the pitch. The buzz around the club is great in terms of being alive in every competition and things like that."

The side are currently still in the FA Cup and Friendship, which would raise the clubs hopes of a second 'Triple Crown' in five seasons, with dates against Devonshire Cougars and Somerset Trojans respectively if they are to get the chance to think about this scenario.

While admitting that the 'Triple Crown' is in the side's thoughts, DeGraff refused to be drawn into declaring that is their main focus.

Being in the position the club are in with their destiny is in their own hands – and games against both sides immediately in their peripheral on the horizon – Village playing Town in two weeks time at St. John's Field, it is anyone's league to win.

The difference for the side this time around is the emergence of their younger players stepping up to keep the side in contention, with the likes of Pierre Smith and Jason Lee being vital cogs in the Rams pursuit of the league.

Regardless of what happens tomorrow, DeGraff guaranteed that the side won't get ahead of themselves and will take one game at a time.

"I think everyone that is in the hunt have their hands on the trophy in terms of holding their destiny in their own hands because if each team win out in the fixtures for the remainder of the season, they will lift the cup.

"But Town are obviously in the better position and they can afford a draw or a little slip up, but you can never say what will happen.

"We are among the three teams this season that have shown the best form consistently and anything can happen, but our main focus is we can't lose.

"I can't say the 'Triple Crown' isn't on our minds but we need to take on what in front of us.

"If it wasn't for our young players stepping up it would be difficult to say where we would be. But the main thing we are worrying about is the league – if the other trophies come then it would be great.

"We have guys with knocks and our main focus is the league.

"For me, to win the 'Triple Crown' as captain would be great but to be honest it will be difficult and I'm not thinking about that too much.

"We are looking at one game at a time and see where that takes us."
