Disaster strikes Sims

Bermuda professional golfer Michael Sims had a nightmare second round yesterday at the Bogota Open in Colombia when he carded an eight-over-par 79 to finish his two rounds at 11 over par.

This was the third consecutive tournament on the Nationwide Tour that Sims has failed to make the cut.

After managing to play all four rounds during the opening Nationwide tournament of the year at the New Zealand Open in January, Sims failed to make the cut at the Moonah Classic in Australia and then the Panama Championships.

Teeing off early yesterday morning on the back nine of the Country Club of Bogota, Sims was eager to move up the ladder after his three-over opening round. But right from the start things went astray with a bogey on the par-four 10th. After two pars he slipped further back on the par-five 13 with a bogey and then had another bogey on the par-four 14th. After three more pars he managed to get back a shot on the par-five 18th which left him two over for the day – five over for the tournament. But it was his second nine starting on the first tee that was a complete disaster.

After a par on the first, Sims suffered a bogey on the par-four second, a bogey on the par-four third, a bogey on the par-four fourth, a bogey on the par-three fifth, a double bogey on the par-four sixth, a bogey on the par-three seventh but then managed to pull one back with a birdie on the par-five eighth before finishing off with a par on the par-four ninth.

The next tournament on the Nationwide Tour will be the Chitimacha Louisiana Open at Le Triomphe Country Club in Broussard, Louisiana which starts on March 25.
