St. David's 262-6

Young Men's Social Club had a weekend to forget after losing their second match in as many days after going down to St. David's by 124 runs at Devonshire Rec yesterday.

The loss coupled with Saturday's defeat to Somerset have put the defending champions behind the eight ball thanks to some hard hitting by St. David's opener Chris Douglas.

Douglas, who broke his left thumb during the preparations for Bermuda's World Cup qualifying campaign in South Africa, made a triumphant return to domestic cricket as the left-hander hit a brisk 93 in his time at the crease in the rain-shortened match.

With both innings being reduced to 26 overs, the Islanders wasted little time in making their intentions clear.

With Lionel Cann back in the pavilion with the score on 11, Douglas and OJ Pitcher (74) put on 171 runs for the second wicket to put their side in total command.

Douglas hit 13 fours and three sixes while Pitcher smashed nine fours and two sixes in his time at the crease.

Brothers Angelo and Ankoma Cannonier both added valuable contributions of 29 and 20 respectively to assist in the run department.

Kenneth Darrell (two for 68) and Nakia Smith (three for 51) were the pick of the Social Club bowlers.

In reply the hosts were never given a chance to build any foundation to their run chase as the St. David's spinners took hold of proceedings from the outset.

Dwayne Adams and Daniel Morgan put on 39 for the first wicket stand.

But when the partnership was broken wickets fell on a regular basis, leaving the side to play out the remainder of the match.

Daman Rabain (14) and Charlie Marshall (13) are the only other Social Club batsman to trouble the scorecard.

Delyone Borden and Del Hollis were the main threat to the champions, claiming three for 44 and two for eight respectively.

OJ Pitcher and Sammy Robinson also claimed a wicket, while Douglas orchestrated a run out.

In the day's other match, Police defeated Bailey's Bay at Sea Breeze Oval.
