East Enders eager to make amends for Cup defeat

St. George's midfielder Detroy Smith has warned his team they can't afford to let Robin Hood off the hook again when the two teams meet in a top-of- the-table showdown on Sunday.

The East Enders crashed out of the FA Cup in last weekend's preliminary round after missing a hatful of first-half chances against the Hood who ran out 2-1 winners.

Smith insists his team-mates have been putting in the overtime in training this week to ensure they don't repeat the same mistakes at Wellington Oval when they re-face the First Division new-boys.

"We missed a lot of chances early on in the FA Cup game and that's what cost us," said Smith. "But we've been working really hard in training this week and are very focused as we know the Hood are a difficult team."

Richard Todd's team sit at the summit of the table but are just one point ahead of the Hood who have a game in hand over their rivals and have not conceded a goal in their opening five league matches.

And Smith has reiterated the importance of remaining ahead of the chasing pack as St.George's attempt to step-up their bid for promotion to the Premier Division.

"We've had a pretty good start to the season and haven't lost yet in the league," he said. "Sure, we got knocked out of the FA Cup but that was never really our priority and we're just aiming on getting promoted.

"I've not been surprised by the Hood's start to the season and they're an organised team and it should be an interesting battle again this weekend as we've both started strongly."

St. George's have emerged as this season's favourites to win the title under their new technical director, Todd, and Smith believes the former national team assistant has already begun to stamp his mark on the ambitious outfit.

"Richard Todd is doing an excellent job at St. George's," Smith added. "He's instilled us with more discipline and unity – we are more of a team now. I think tactically we are a better team as well."

St.George's take on Robin Hood at 12.30 p.m.

The First Division's other fixtures see BAA play Wolves at BAA Field, Paget face X-Roads at White Hill Field, MR Onions take on St. David's at Lord's and YMSC go up against Ireland Rangers at Bernard Park.
