Footballers set for Cup challenge

Bermuda's young football stars of the future jet off to Minnesota today to compete in the prestigious Schwan's USA Cup Weekend.

Selected from Bermuda's Under-17 national team, the squad will use the competition as preparation for their Youth World Cup qualifiers later this month.

Under-17s coach Mark Wade will remain on the Island to work with those players who have not been chosen for the trip, while his assistant Ray Jones and Bermuda technical director Derek Broadley will travel with the team.

The Gombey Warriors will play three matches in two days from July 11-13.

Squad: Terrin Smith, Jayshon Simmons, Troy Tucker, Shaquille Trott, Jah-Quille Stowe, Nelson Smith, Tariq Sabir, Tre Ming, Zeiko Lewis, Jair Minors, Rakeem DeShields, Anthony Hunter, Daniel Andrade, Khaleel Brunson, Jaylon Bather, Kashai Davis, Corey Richardson, Aaron Nelson, Damali Bell.

Meanwhile, Bermuda Football Association's (BFA) Referees' Committee will be holding an open session at BAA on Sunday.

The meeting will cover the new upgrading policy for present and new referees, outline courses for the new season and provide information on the new FIFA Referees' Assistant Programme.

Only 28 referees have so far joined the committee and the BFA are looking for more members to come onboard.
