Four qualify for 2010 Carifta Games

Four Bermuda track and field athletes reached the qualifying standard for the Carifta Games this weekend.

On Saturday, Jeneko Place, Kameron Creighton and Bruce DeGrilla booked their tickets to the Cayman Islands later this year with their performances at the Bermuda Track and Field Association's first meet of the 2010 at the National Sports Centre.

Jasmine Brunson also qualified for the annual junior athletics competition in the long jump at the Clemson Invitational Track Meet with a second place finish. Brunson reached the Carifta Games' 'A' standard with a leap of 5.74 metres.

Sprinter, Place reached the 'A' standard in the 100m and 200m with times of 11 minutes and 19 seconds and 22.29, respectively.

Creighton also met the 'A' standard in the 3,000m with a time of 9.53.6, while DeGrilla reached the 'B' standard in the long jump with a 6.33m leap.

The Carifta Games has two age categories, under-17 and under-20. Only countries associated with Carifta can compete in the multi-sport event.
