Gibbons sets his sights on cup run

Boulevard defender Ajani Gibbons hopes his side enjoy a deep run in the Friendship Cup this season and has called on his team-mates to raise their game as they look to advance to the next round of the competition tomorrow.

Blazers play PHC in the second match of a double-header at the Bernard Park, with BAA and Paget preceding the main encounter in their Shield Elimination match.

For Gibbons, who has been instrumental in the club's encouraging start to the season, the Friendship Trophy is a realistic piece of silverware for Blazers to aim for.

"We're looking good at the moment would like to reach a final of a cup competition this year," said the Bermuda Hogges player.

"We've played them already this year and know it won't be easy but it seems like every team is coming with their best stuff against us because we apparently aren't a strong side.

"But we will show everyone what we're made of this weekend if we haven't done so already.

"It's important for our season, as well as our fans because after all that has been said about us, we can give a good account of ourselves.

"We're looking good at the moment and feel that we can get something out of this season."

Elsewhere in the Friendship, defending champions North Village will look to make their way back to another final when they play St. David's at White Hill Field, with Ireland Rangers locking horns with Hamilton Parish in Shield action at the same venue.

Village beat the Islanders 7-0 on Thursday night in the Premier Division.

The battle of Devonshire will take place at Southampton Oval when Devonshire Colts tangle with Devonshire Cougars, while X'Roads clash with Wolves at the Oval.

In the tomorrow's final tie, St. George's will make the short trek to St. David's to play Southampton Rangers, with Prospect playing Robin Hood at Lords as well in the Shield.

All Friendship matches will start at 2.30pm, with Shield games kicking off at 12.30pm.
