Golfers out in force for annual Talbot tourney

The team of Robert Custodio, Glen Baisden, Bramwell Tucker and Elizabeth Carpio finished with an impressive 108 points to take the Stapleford title in this week's annual Ross (Blackie) Talbot tournament at Riddell's Bay,

As usual the popual event attracted a massive entry with close to 500 competing over the three days.

In a separate Captain's Choice competition, honours went to the team of Craig Christensen, Michael Butler, Nigel Burgess and Gladyz Chambaz who won on retrogression with an eight-under-par 62.

Also shooting 62 were the teams of Andrew Woodworth, Joel Willens, Reed Gaglio and Scott Roy, and Chris Wright, Steve Woodward, Allan Farrell and Jerome Bradshaw.

Thousands of dollars were again raised for local charities through entry fees and raffle tickets – the exact amount yet to be calculated.

However, over the years the tournament has been the largest charity sports event on the Island.

Organiser Clem Talbot noted the number of tee times over the three days was close to the previous record.

"This year was an overwhelming success," he said. ". . . which is a tremendous feat when considering the state of our economy."
