Ireland's president: Club will not fold

Ireland Rangers president Duane Derosa remained adamant yesterday that the First Division club will not disband after losing the services of key personnel during the summer off season.

The Dockyard-based club were condemned to 12.30 p.m. football at the end of last season following another disappointing campaign in the top tier.

Up until yesterday their future remained up in the air with club officials and players due to meet soon to plot a way to move forward.

When contacted yesterday, former Southampton Rangers' and Somerset Trojans' defender Derosa moved swiftly to dispel rumours that his club have in fact disbanded.

"We have lost some key players . . . but we are not going to disband. We will be all right," he said.

One Ireland Rangers footballer, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Royal Gazette: "There have been a lot of rumours going about claiming that we have already disbanded. It's true that we have lost some players, but we haven't disbanded.

"We are determined to pick up the pieces and field a team this year."

Rangers managed only two wins last season before taking the plunge with fellow West Enders Somerset Trojans who were relegated just one season after clinching Friendship Trophy and Dudley Eve honours.
