Island team bounce back

Bermuda kept their hopes of winning promotion to Group III of the Davis Cup Americas Zone with a comfortable win over the US Virgin Islands.

Having lost their first tie of the Group IV round robin event in Honduras, Bermuda got back to winning ways, not dropping a set as they won both singles and the doubles match convincingly.

Jensen Bascome overcame a nervy start to begin the rout with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Kristopher Elien. There were no such problems for Gavin Manders, however, as he lost just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kevin Motta.

And Jordan Talbot and David Thomas completed the victory in the doubles with a hard fought 6-3, 7-5 win over Henry Nelthropp and Alric Plaskett.

Two teams from this tournament will be promoted to Group III, and with Costa Rica likely to claim the top spot in the tournament, Bermuda need to beat Haiti today if they are to claim the second automatic qualifying place.
