It's not all over, there's still a share of $300m to play for

Bermuda will have everything to play for against Oman at Absa Puk Oval as a four-team play-off to determine ninth through 12th positions at the 2011 World Cup qualifiers kicks off today in South Africa.

In addition to the $350,000 at stake, today's eventual winner will qualify for a share of the $300 million the ICC will inject into cricket below the Test level over the next two years for development purposes as well as enhancing their chances of Intercontinental Cup qualification.

On the flip side of the coin, today's loser will be relegated to the ICC Pepsi World Cricket League Division Three and lose out on considerable funding via the ICC High Performance Programme.

"It's going to be a big game because it could be a situation where you can finish playing in the second or third division. And I think everybody would want us to keep some kind of focus and leave some kind of legacy for Bermuda cricket," said Gus Logie, the Bermuda coach. "We have a few more games left and so we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and start all over again."

Skipper Irving Romaine, added: "We really have to put in a good showing and do what we have to do against Oman and I'm confident the guys we'll be up to the task."

Oman, one of two ICC Affiliate teams competing in this year's World Cup qualifying tournament, will enter today's match with Bermuda on a high following their exciting one-wicket triumph over Uganda in their final Group A match.

"We know one day cricket is all about that day's performance, so basically we're just keeping our focus simple," said Hemal Metha, the Oman captain.

Today's remaining play-off sees Denmark taking on Uganda at nearby Senwes Park.

Bermuda bowed out of World Cup qualifiers earlier this week courtesy of a 63 run loss to the Netherlands who advanced from Group B to the Super Eight along with Kenya, United Arab Emirates and Afghanistan.

Canada, Scotland, Ireland and Namibia make up the four remaining teams in the Super Eight that also commences today in Johannesburg.
