Lambe has the skill to succeed
Reggie Lambe's debut for Ipswich on Tuesday night started him along a path few Bermudians have been able to walk along.
The talented youngster impressed in his first outing for the Tractor Boys, and his success has drawn praise from across the football community.
Bermuda Football Association (BFA) president, Richard Calderon: "I'm sure that I speak for all local football enthusiasts in saying that I am thrilled that Reggie has made his debut for Ipswich Town.
"There are so many positives associated with this happening and it sends a very strong message to our youth football players that they too have a realistic chance of making it at this level.
"It has been clear to all that have watched Reggie's progress that he had the talent to establish himself as a professional. But if talent alone was all that was needed to get to this level, we would have several players established in the top leagues.
"Hard work, discipline and dedication are just some of the additional qualities needed to become a professional and clearly Reggie possesses them all. From a national programme perspective, the news couldn't have been better."
Bermuda's former Walsall, Coventry and Stoke striker, Kyle Lightbourne: "I thought it was wonderful for Reggie to make his debut. He's at a young age and has his whole football career ahead of him.
"I wish him all the best and believe he has the ability to go right to the top. It's great for him to be involved at this early stage of the season and hopefully he can hold down a regular starting place - he's at a great club.
"I've always said we've had the ability in Bermuda and, for me, it's all about making the most of your opportunities. When they come your way you have to take them with both hands.
"The more I think about I was very fortunate to make it at 23. Football has changed nowadays and that wouldn't happen now. Stevie Astwood was very unlucky and could have been another Bermudian playing in England.
"David Moyes, then manager of Preston North End, wanted to sign him but he couldn't get a work permit. Thankfully those rules have changed now and I hope there will be more players to follow Reggie to England."
Ipswich manager Roy Keane: "The youngsters came through with flying colours and I was pleased with them. They showed a lot of determination and character to come through and we would have been bitterly disappointed to have lost out in the end."
