Life's a Beach as Dandy Town crush Cougars
Devonshire Cougars 2
Dandy Town 6
Raymond Beach struck a hat-trick and skipper Jared Peniston snatched two more as Dandy Town showed why they are the class of the Premier Division after dismantling defending champions Devonshire Cougars at St. John's Field.
Nahki Wells also continued his scoring spree by adding one.
The result puts Hornets seven points clear of yesterday's opponents and sends out a clear message to the rest of the title contenders.
Six goals in a 23-minute span cancelled the visitors advantage after going ahead through Kwame Steede.
During the opening exchanges Cougars went close with Steede and Korvon Tucker having cracks at goal but failing to make any impact on the scoreline.
It was not until the second half that the game really sprung to life when Steede broke the deadlock eight minutes after the restart.
Four minutes later Wells was adjudged to have been bought down by LaVintz Tota after the two collided in the area.
Skipper Peniston strolled up and calmly put his chance away from the spot.
From that point on it was all Town as the next four goals came in 20 minutes.
First, it was Wells who got in the sheet to put the hosts up 2- after Beach allowed the ball to run across his body and cleverly laid it off for his strike partner.
In the 75th it turned to the Beach show, when he claimed his first of the day when he beat Tota with a header that went back across goal.
The burly striker then held off Sean Brangman and slotted past Tota for his second before capping off his hat-trick againts his former team when he deftly chipped past the 'keeper.
Cougars would get a consolation when Aljame Zuill converted from the penalty spot after Steede was bought down.
Peniston then came up with his second, again from the spot, sending his kick to Tota's left in injury time.
Peniston said Horntes wanted victory more than Cougars
"We won this match because we wanted it more then them," said Peniston. "We are working towards something that we have not had in a long time and want to give our best effort to bring the league title back home.
"This is a statement game for us.
"Going down 1-0 we just wanted to keep playing and thought everything would fall into place - it was a case of no guts, no glory.
"Our strikers have been doing a great job as of late and today he (Beach) did the job to get us through.
"I did my job also, so that is a bonus.
"We are still looking to take on those we have not played and we know they are looking to play us as well, so this is where the business part of the game comes in."
