Lovell strikes as Hood maintain 100 percent start
Robin Hood 2 BAA 0
Unbeaten Robin Hood made it four wins out of four by brushing aside BAA in the First Division Shield last night at BAA Field.
Jahmal Lovell broke the deadlock midway through the second half before David Outerbridge doubled their advantage late on to ensure Hood's safe passage to the next round of the cup competition.
Hood saw good goalscoring chances go begging in the first half with both Lovell and Steven Simon going close, while BAA also had their moments with Chris Lima hitting the crossbar with a rasping volley after the break.
Hood manager Paul Scope praised his players for their battling display, especially his watertight defence which has not conceded a goal this campaign.
"We missed a few good chances in the first half and their goalkeeper made some great saves," he said.
"They made it difficult for us at times but we kept going and it's all about getting through to the next round of the competition.
"We've won four games on the trot now and haven't conceded a goal, so we have to be happy with the start we've made.
"In a short time we've made the transition from Commercial League team to a top First Division team."
While Scope takes the first team reins on matchdays, esteemed coach Andrew Bascome drills the Hood players during training in the week.
And Scope is quick to praise Boulevard Blazers coach Bascome for his part in Hood's early season success.
"Andrew's a great coach and the players have really responded to him," Scope said.
"They're really enjoying his sessions and we're getting around 25-30 guys turning up to train.
"It's a bit like the old British system where the coach takes the training in the week and the manager does his bit on matchdays."
Hood have now beaten MR Onions, Wolves, Paget and BAA, but Scope believes tougher times are ahead for his players.
"We haven't done anything yet and we still have to play the top teams like St. George's, St. David's and Ireland Rangers.
"I'm not expecting promotion this season and we've still got a way to go."
