Maturana blames strikers for defeat
Trinidand and Tobago coach Francisco Maturana took full responsibility for his team's stunning defeat against Bermuda, but insisted that the Soca Warriors would still prevail.
Maturana, a former Colombian international, admitted the loss had left a nasty taste in the mouth and bemoaned his strikers' inability to finish off a host of chances.
"This was a pretty bad result, and has left a nasty taste in our mouths. I assume full responsibility for the defeat and absolve the players from the blame.
"There is a problem scoring goals, we had our two-leading goalscorers of all time out there and they missed plenty of chances.
"This is definitely not over yet, and we firmly believe we can turn this result around."
The under-fire coach was full of praise for his opposite number, Kenny Thompson, and conceded that it was his opponent who had come out on top in the first tactical battle.
"They were just winners and played a very calm game and interpreted their tactics very well," said Mantuara, speaking through an interpreter. "We on the other hand played with confusion and were in too much of a hurry to reach their goal. Trinidad abused the long pass, and that is no way to short circuit to the goal. We have to be patient and then the goals will come."
